The word foetus (plural fetuses) is from the Latin fetus, meaning offspring, bringing forth, hatching of young. It has Indo-European roots related to sucking or suckling, from the Aryan prefix bheu-, meaning "To come into being". Therefore the uses of the words foetus or unborn child are fully interchangeable.
God, in his infinite wisdom, gave us life and He gave us choice. When God created Adam He breathed into him the breath of life [his soul] and then He gave Adam and Eve the ability to choose between good and evil. Ever since that fateful day in the Garden of Eden mankind has been making many wrong choices.
As quoted in God, is my soul eternal? the famous Oxford PhD and author C.S. Lewis observed, “You don’t have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.” If we are to believe God then, when a baby is killed, even moments after conception, a life is taken. God says, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,..” and King David echoed this sentiment when he declared “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.” Even as a zygote you are a soul.
Yes, God is in favour of us making choices; intelligent, informed choices which are in keeping with His good and perfect will. As is noted elsewhere on this website, there are always consequences to the choices and decisions we make be they selfish or selfless.
In all the noise of the arguments between prolife and prochoice groups the truth of the doctrine of choice is overlooked. This is eloquently pointed out in a letter of rebuttal to a [prochoice] writer:
RE: Pro choice you are not
You call yourself prochoice? You have to be joking. You call me antichoice but I am far more prochoice than you.
According to your doctrine women should have the right to choose to abort any baby, any time. But her baby has no choice. He/she must die. The father of the baby has no choice and will be laughed out of court if he tries to stop you murdering his baby. The grandparents, both sides, would love to show baby pictures to their friends but they have no choice but to helplessly watch a tragedy unfold. Now you want to take away the choice of physicians to practice good ethical and scientific medicine.
In Canada, taxpayers have no choice but to subsidize your choice to kill. The medical plan members have no choice but must contribute approximately 1.4% of their premiums to finance the woman's choice to terminate babies they don't yet want. Since the law limiting the practice of abortion was struck down, even the judges don't have a choice but must follow suit. It appears the government doesn't have a choice for they believe if they tried to regulate the aborting of future citizens, they would lose the next election.
Ah, but you say the woman has the choice and her choice is all that matters. No she doesn't. When she becomes pregnant her baby creates an engram or imprint in her mind. Can a mother forget the child she bore? No. That child will always be in her thinking, making her/himself known in dreams and subconscious thoughts until the day she dies. She doesn't have a choice. This happens automatically.
After evaluating and treating the most severely depressed and handicapped children for so long, I am convinced there are no children that want to be dead. So don't pretend to choose for your child. He/she will always want to live. Thus the child's choice for life should trump all the others.

This statement is borne out by statistics from many prolife pregnancy care centres, where many of those they serve are women grieving the loss of the child they chose to have aborted. The work of these centres demonstrates their belief in God’s grace that these women, even having aborted their children, are still precious in His sight.
